The CT technology allows radiologists to evaluate computer-generated images of the colon of patients. The images are very similar to those seen during standard procedure and, if virtual colonoscopy detects an anomaly, a standard colonoscopy can be performed on the same day.

Although no trip to the ice cream, virtual colonoscopy can reduce the complications of this critical evaluation to a manageable level.
